Charity is something that you do for yourself. Charity is believed to purify our hearts and strengthen our souls. The serenity it gives us indescribable and cannot be put into words. The utter sense of calm that comes with charity is something every being on earth should experience.

Amal team assigned us the task to carry on Edhi Sahab’s legacy and gather funds since after his demise Edhi Foundation is going through a severe setback and a shortfall of donations from the local public. One of the reasons could be the lack of trust within the community because people are very reluctant with their money. As assigned, we had to collect money for the Edhi foundation through different social media platforms.

It was a fantastic learning experience collectively. For some of us, it was the very first time we were collecting funds for a reputable organization. We had to face rejection as well as we did not receive a very encouraging response.

It was a group task, but we had to collect money individually because of certain barriers like distance. We put up posts on our social media and WhatsApp statuses for maximum promotions and reach. We reached almost a hundred people collectively through our social media platform and WhatsApp statuses mostly. We did not reach out individually in person because it gets a bit awkward, and people, even if reluctant, are unable to refuse, and things get a bit awkward.

The challenges we had to face were the lack of support from people. We did not receive a very encouraging or positive response through our posts. People were not very responsive because the majority of them were students who are themselves dependent and not self-sufficient. The financial crisis already struck the adults whom we reached out to due to the ongoing crisis like COVID-19 and thunderstorms.

It was an amazing learning experience for all of us. Each of us had to face the rejection of some sorts. We were able to come out of our fear of failure and acceptance of failure. We were able to experience first hand how it feels like to face rejection in the face. Overall it was a learning experience for all of us, and we took home some stuff from the activity.
